Summer Solstice Incense

Summer solstice is a time of fire energy. The sun is at it’s peak as we celebrate the longest day of the year, the power of the gods (or source)… the growing crops, and our fire energies. This year I was tasked (gleefully!) with bringing the incense to the Summer Solstice ritual I attend.

Our ritual was wonderful, and after the big warm sun dipped below the horizon the field behind us lit up with hundreds of tiny fireflies. It was magical.

Fiery Ingredients for Midsummer

My Fiery Incense Blend Shown Above

I used a base of about 1 part palo santo and 1 part myrrh, so it was warm and sweet.

  • 1 part palo santo
  • 1 part myrrh
  • 20 tiny dried rose leaves
  • 1/2 part benzoin
  • pinch of rosemary
  • pinch of powdered dragon’s blood resin

This was a lovely soft incense that was warm and fiery for midsummer. I think I would add more dragon’s blood resin for next time.. for outdoor use it could be powered up a little more.

It was lovely nonetheless and it added to our wonderful ceremony.
